A NASCAR Truck Series driver has been suspended for intentionally hitting a competitor

NASCAR announced Wednesday that Truck Series driver Conner Jones has been suspended from Friday’s race at Martinsville. He intentionally hit Matt Mills at Homestead.

Mills was hospitalized for two nights after suffering from smoke inhalation. Jones crashed into Mills’ truck in turns 1 and 2, sending Mills into the wall. After the impact, Mills’ truck burst into flames.

Jones, 18, said in a statement after the race that he “let my frustration get the best of me” and that he “underestimated the impact my actions would have on Matt and deeply regrets the consequences that followed.”

Jones is running a part-time schedule for ThorSport Racing this season and was due to compete in Friday’s race before being suspended.

After the crash, Mills posted a video on social media thanking fans for their support, saying it was the “scariest situation” he’s ever been in.

Mills is full-time in the Truck Series and is 23rd in the points standings with two races remaining in the 2024 season. Friday’s race in Martinsville is the final semifinal round race before the championship race in Phoenix on Nov. 8.
