Lori Flanagan retired earlier this year after 18 years as Athletic Director. University of Missouri – St. Louiswill be He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2024.

Flanagan’s induction ceremony will be held on November 24 in the United States Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis. He has hosted numerous notable sports figures from the St. Louis area, including St. Louis football star Taylor Twellman, St. Louis Cardinals radio network engineer Jim Jackson and media personality Earl Austin, Jr.

Flanagan arrived on campus in August 2006 as associate director of athletics, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department and serving as chief financial officer. He then took over as interim sporting director in August 2008 and won the full-time title the following March.

In total, he led a department of 290 student-athletes in 19 sports. Under his leadership, the Tritons achieved NCAA Division II success Great Lakes Valley Conference. They won and saw nine conference championships, three D-II regional championships men’s basketball team reaches the Elite Eightthe women’s softball team advances to two Final Foursthe women’s tennis team advances to the national quarterfinals and men’s golfer Joel Sylven claims the school’s second national championship.

During his time leading the department, many coaches have served more than 10 years, and UMSL hosted the 2023 D-II women’s golf national championship, as well as regionals and super regionals in softball and softball.

Triton student-athletes also achieved academic success with 18 named Academic All-Americans. The program as a whole has consistently maintained a GPA above 3.5 and an academic success rate above 83 percent.

Previously, she worked at Saint Louis University for 14 years, serving as assistant director of athletics, chief women’s administrator and associate director of athletics for administration. In addition, Flanagan served as the SWA to liaise with the Atlantic 10 Conference and ensure programmatic compliance under Title IX and gender equity. She was a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s National Tennis Committee from 2000-2004 and the NCAA Women’s Softball National Committee from 2005-06. He was also a member of the organizing committee for the 2001 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four and the 2005 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four in St. Louis. Flanagan also served as a member of the NCAA Peer Certification Review Team from 2000-2006.

Flanagan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and holds a master’s degree in sports administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
